The Samsung SHR-1040 DVR-4 is a quiet unit as the other reviews state... just one reason why I purchased it over others. Promptly delivered in new box, with instructions and in brand new, excellent condition. I was able to test connect my Swann Maxi Day/Night Cam security cameras to the Samsung SHR-1040 DVR-4 without any hassles. Everything worked fine... even the remote. Recording is easy. Came with the 160GB hard drive as indicated (I opened it up and checked)... so no VCR tapes needed... that is what I was looking for. Don't need a computer to connect anything to either. I found a 3 foot RCA video cable lying around the house to connect the DVR-4 to my Samsung DVD-V4600 DVD/VCR. The picture on an old RCA color tv is excellent. There are audio ports, but I didn't hook up audio cables to them. Excellent item at an excellent price. I looked around on the internet for almost two months before settling on this one. The Samsung SHR-1040 is a real bargin for such an outstanding unit.
